58 days: Fading Facade

Today I visited Ahsan Manzil, also known as the Pink Palace, in Dhaka. The building's distinctive pink facade stood out against the backdrop of the bustling city, drawing me in with its regal charm. Once the residence of the Nawab of Dhaka, the palace now serves as a museum, preserving the memories of a bygone era.

As I walked through its grand halls, I felt the coolness of the marble floors beneath my feet, a relief from the sweltering heat outside. The rooms were filled with exhibits of ornate furniture, vintage photographs, and personal items that once belonged to the Nawab's family. Each piece seemed to whisper stories of opulence and a life long gone.

The intricate architecture of the palace, with its arches, balconies, and domes, was mesmerizing. I spent time sketching the intricate patterns and delicate carvings, trying to capture the essence of this historic place. Despite the humidity, there was a tranquility within these walls that contrasted with the bustling streets outside.

As the light rain began to fall, I left the palace feeling a deeper connection to Dhaka's multilayered past. Today was a day of discovery, a day that brought the city's history alive.
