Day 11: Golden Citadel

Today I explored the historic Fortaleza de São Miguel in Luanda. The weather was perfect, with clear skies and a gentle coastal breeze that made the experience even more enjoyable. The fortress, perched on a hill overlooking the city and the Atlantic Ocean, offered a breathtaking panoramic view that took my breath away.

Walking through the ancient stone walls and courtyards, I was transported back in time. Built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, the fortress has a rich history that can be felt in every corner. The cannons, the old barracks, and the intricate tiles depicting historical scenes all told stories of a bygone era.

From the ramparts, I could see the bustling city below, juxtaposed with the serene expanse of the ocean. The contrast between the vibrant life of Luanda and the serene beauty of the coast was truly inspiring. I spent some time sketching the views, trying to capture the essence of this unique place.

The Fortaleza de São Miguel also houses a small museum with exhibits about Angola's colonial past and struggle for independence. The exhibits were informative and moving, adding depth to my understanding of the country's history.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the city, I felt a deep sense of connection to this place. Luanda has left a lasting impression on me, and I look forward to translating today's experience into my next piece of art.
