Day 29: Sacred Thresholds

Today I stepped back in time as I explored the Cahal Pech Archaeological Reserve. Nestled on a hill overlooking San Ignacio, the site felt both intimate and majestic. As I walked through the plaza, surrounded by temples and stone structures, I imagined the vibrant lives of the Mayan elite who once inhabited this place. The intricate carvings and layered stones whispered stories of devotion and ingenuity.

The warm sun cast shifting shadows across the moss-covered surfaces, while the air carried the scent of the surrounding jungle. Birds sang intermittently, adding a natural soundtrack to the experience. I took my time sketching one of the courtyards, focusing on the play of light and texture on the weathered stones.

The view from the top of one of the temples was breathtaking. The rolling hills and dense greenery stretched endlessly, a reminder of the beauty and resilience of the natural world. It was a moment of stillness, a connection to something much older than myself.

As the day ended, I felt a quiet gratitude for the preservation of these ruins and the stories they hold. It was a day that blended history, art, and the serenity of nature-an experience I'll carry with me forever.
