Day 39: José Martín

Trinidad's heart boasts cobblestone streets and colonial architecture, evoking a sense of stepping back in time. The Plaza Mayor, alive with the rhythms of local life, basked in the soft afternoon sun. At the church, I met José Martín, a craftsman whose small stall overflowed with hand-carved wooden artifacts, each piece telling a story of Trinidad's heritage.

José learned the craft from his grandfather and takes pride in his work and city. José learned the craft from his grandfather and takes pride in his work and city. José learned the craft from his grandfather and takes pride in his work and city. He showed me the intricate details in his carvings, which mirror the architectural beauty of Trinidad.

Our conversation was brief but gave me a glimpse into the soul of the city, which cherishes its past while embracing the present. José's dedication to his craft is a blend of artistry and history that inspired me. His parting words, 'Every carving is a piece of Trinidad,' echoed in my mind as a poignant reminder of the enduring spirit of this historic city.

The vibrant hues of the sunset cast a magical glow over Trinidad as the day wound down, a perfect end to a day of exploration and connection. José and his carvings became not just a memory of Trinidad but a symbol of the city's heart and history.
