62 days: Joy in Silence

Today I spent a wonderful few hours exploring Paro Rinpung Dzong. The imposing fortress stood tall against the backdrop of the Paro valley, its whitewashed walls softly glowing under the moving clouds. As I walked across the wooden cantilevered bridge leading to the dzong, I felt the cool breeze from the Paro Chhu River and the scent of fresh pine in the air.

Inside, the dzong was buzzing with activity; monks in deep red robes moved purposefully, their soft chanting creating a soothing rhythm. I was struck by the intricate wood carvings and vibrant murals of Buddhist stories that adorned the walls. The art here speaks of patience and devotion, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of calm as I walked through the courtyard.

I lingered in the sunlight and watched as a group of young monks played with a sense of carefree joy. There was a serene harmony between the old and the new, tradition and daily life, all coexisting within these ancient walls. As I left the Dzong, I felt grateful for this glimpse into the spiritual heart of Bhutan, and carried a sense of peace with me as I returned to my guesthouse.
