Fourth Journey Day 112: Thresholds of Colour and Shadow

As I entered the Iglesia El Rosario, I was greeted by a space unlike any other church I had visited. From the outside, it resembled a curved concrete shell - unassuming, almost austere. But the moment I stepped inside, a cascade of color surrounded me. Stained glass windows embedded in the vaulted ceiling cast fragmented beams of blue, red, and gold across the bare concrete walls. The way the light shifted throughout the day felt like a living painting, constantly in motion.
I sat in the back for a while, watching people move through the space-some in silent prayer, others simply taking in the architecture. I was fascinated by the play of shadows and colors. I took out my sketchbook and traced the angular patterns of light on the floor, imagining how I could layer these effects into a collage.
Outside, the noise of the city felt distant, but the contrast between the quiet interior and the busy streets heightened my awareness of both. As I walked back, I thought about how spaces shape experience-how light, texture, and silence can evoke something beyond words. Tonight I will experiment with torn paper and textured layers to capture this ephemeral glow.
