First Journey Day 53: Dance of the Dracula
Date: October 16, 2023
Location: Suceava, Romania
In Suceava, in northeastern Romania, partly cloudy light softened the medieval skyline—citadel walls, old churches, and lively cafés—setting the tone for slow wandering and quiet looking.
Fortresses in Gentle Light
Today, I found myself wandering the streets of Suceava, a city rich in history and culture. The partly cloudy skies provided a gentle backdrop, allowing the sun to occasionally peek through and cast a warm glow on the ancient structures. As I strolled, I was captivated by the blend of old-world charm and modernity. The city's fortresses and churches, some of which date back to the 14th century, stood in stark contrast to the bustling cafes and contemporary art installations.
Textures of the Market
I chanced upon a local market where vendors were selling traditional Romanian crafts. The intricate patterns on the textiles and the hand-painted ceramics were a testament to the craftsmanship of the locals. I couldn't resist purchasing a few souvenirs to remember this place by.
A Romanian Lunch
Lunch was a delightful affair at a quaint eatery. I savoured mămăligă, a Romanian cornmeal dish, paired with a hearty stew. The flavours were robust and reminded me of the home-cooked meals back in Singapore, albeit with a distinct Romanian twist.
Quiet Moments in the Park
As the day drew to a close, I sat at a park bench, reflecting on my journey so far. The gentle breeze, the sound of children playing in the distance, and the serene atmosphere made me feel grateful for this adventure. Suceava, with its rich tapestry of history and vibrant present, has left an indelible mark on my heart.
Looking Ahead
Tomorrow promises another day of exploration, and I'm eager to see what new experiences await.
