Fourth Journey Day 60: Stories in the Grain

The day began with golden sunlight streaming through the windows, promising a beautiful day ahead. I made my way to St. James Parish Church, one of the oldest and most historic landmarks on the island. As I walked through its serene grounds, the air seemed to hum with a quiet reverence. The ancient mahogany trees and tombstones bore witness to centuries past.
Inside the church, sunlight filtered through the stained glass windows, painting the wooden pews in muted hues. I spent time sketching the intricate carvings and arched windows, capturing the sense of time and stillness within these walls.
A friendly caretaker stopped to chat, telling stories of the church's history and its resilience through hurricanes and time. His voice carried both pride and respect for this place, deepening my appreciation of its significance.
Later, I sat outside under one of the old trees, refining my sketches and letting the serenity wash over me. The peacefulness of the day left me feeling grounded and connected to the stories etched into the history of this island.
As the day drew to a close, I returned to my accommodations, eager to translate today's quiet inspiration into something lasting on my canvas.
