Fourth Journey Day 63: Guardians of Time's Edge

Today I ventured out to Hamilton Fort, a quiet 18th century relic overlooking Bequia's harbor. The path leading up was lined with lush greenery, and when I reached the site, the view opened up to a breathtaking panorama of the harbor below. The ruins, though modest, spoke volumes of a time long past. Moss clung to the stones, and the faint scent of sea salt wafted through the air.

Standing there, I imagined the fort in its heyday, bustling with activity, its walls a sentinel against distant threats. Now it stands in solemn repose, its silence a testament to resilience. I sketched a fragment of the walls, their texture weathered by time, and the sweeping curve of the bay under the open sky.

The tranquility of the setting was profound, punctuated only by the calls of seabirds and the occasional whisper of the wind. It felt like the island was inviting me to stop, breathe, and just be.

As the afternoon wore on, I slowly descended, carrying with me not only sketches, but a sense of peace. The fort and its history lingered in my mind, a silent reminder of the enduring interplay between history and nature.
