Fourth Journey Day 67: Savannah's Guardians
The day began with clear skies and a pleasant breeze. I ventured into Queen's Park Savannah, drawn by its reputation as a vibrant cultural and historical center. My walk took me along the route of the Magnificent Seven, a series of colonial mansions, each with its own unique architectural charm. The intricate details of Stollmeyer's Castle and the grandeur of Whitehall captured my attention, inspiring thoughts of heritage and transformation.
I paused under the shade of a towering Samaan tree, appreciating the tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. The rhythmic sounds of joggers and the distant chatter of families provided a soothing backdrop.
Later, I sat on a bench overlooking the open savanna field and sketched fragments of the mansion facades and the play of light and shadow on their structures. The exercise felt grounding, a moment of connection to the past and present that blended seamlessly.
As the sun began its descent, the golden hour painted the buildings with a warm glow, adding a touch of magic to the day's experience. I returned to my accommodation and reflected on the balance of history and modernity that defines Port of Spain.
