First Journey Day 15: Nature's Symphony
Date: September 8, 2023
Location: Aswan, Egypt
In Aswan, Egypt, the Nile moves with a measured grace. Today’s passage to the Aswan Botanical Garden on a small island felt like an exhale—river light, rustling palms, and the kind of hush that makes sketching feel like listening.
The Calm Current of the Nile
Today was a day of serenity and reflection. Aswan, with its rich history and the gentle flow of the Nile, has a calming aura that's hard to put into words. I decided to visit the Aswan Botanical Garden, an oasis of green on an island in the midst of the Nile. The journey to the garden itself, on a small boat, set the tone for the day. The rhythmic sound of water against the boat, the distant calls of birds, and the soft rustle of the wind were therapeutic.
A Garden on an Island
The garden was a revelation. Amidst the arid landscape of Egypt, this lush haven was a testament to nature's resilience. I walked through groves of palm trees, their tall silhouettes casting long shadows on the ground. The scent of blooming flowers wafted through the air, mingling with the earthy aroma of the Nile.
Sketches in the Shade
I found a quiet spot under a large tree and sat down, sketching the landscape and jotting down ideas for my next artwork.
Everyday Life Among the Palms
Local families picnicked around, children laughing and playing, while older couples walked hand in hand, lost in conversation. It was a scene of everyday life, yet there was a profound beauty in its simplicity. I felt a deep connection to this place, a sense of belonging that's rare to find when you're constantly on the move.
Returning at Golden Hour
As the sun began its descent, casting a golden hue over the garden, I made my way back to the boat. The ride back was just as mesmerizing, with the setting sun reflecting on the Nile's waters. Today was a reminder of the simple joys of life and the beauty that lies in every moment. Aswan has etched a special place in my heart.
