Fourth Journey Day 113: The Stone’s Memory

The jade workshop sat on the outskirts of town, a quiet place where the scent of stone dust and wood mixed in the air. Inside, an elderly craftsman ran his hands over a slab of deep green jade, his movements precise and unhurried. He explained how the Maya once fashioned this sacred stone, believing it held the essence of life and power.

I watched as he cut and polished a small pendant, the rhythmic scraping of stone on wheel filling the room. He offered me a piece to hold - a smooth, cool fragment that fit perfectly in the palm of my hand. The weight of history pressed against my skin.

I sketched the workshop, capturing the way the light bounced off the polished surfaces, the contrast between raw and polished edges. The process felt intimate, a quiet conversation between man and earth. I left with a handful of sketches and a mind full of texture and form.

Outside, the city buzzed with life, but I lingered a little longer, letting the weight of the jade settle in my mind.
