Fourth Journey Day 72: Bridges of Quiet Stories

The Marowijne River greeted me this morning with a sense of serenity. I joined a local guide for a short boat ride, and as we glided over the calm waters, the rhythmic sound of the oars was soothing. The surrounding landscape was lush, with dense greenery lining the banks and occasional splashes of color from wildflowers.
The guide shared stories about the river's importance to the community, both as a source of livelihood and as a cultural link between Suriname and French Guiana. I spotted small wooden fishing boats, their occupants casting nets with practiced ease. A heron stood motionless on a rock, its white plumage glowing against the green.
At one point we passed a small, bustling village. Children waved enthusiastically, their laughter carrying over the water. The simplicity and authenticity of the moment was deeply moving.
Back on land, I spent some time sketching the scene from memory at a quiet riverside cafe. The day left me with a renewed appreciation for the gentle rhythm of life on the river.
