Today, in the sporadic drizzle of Manila's rainy season, I visited the National Museum of Fine Arts. As I walked through the corridors adorned with masterpieces, I was struck by a particular painting and paused longer than usual. It caught the attention of Maria Santos, a retired art teacher and volunteer at the museum.
